Customer Review: Accurate and easy-to-read

My oven has always been much hotter than the number on the dial. So, a while back, I bought this oven thermometer (Taylor 503 Connoissuer Line Oven Thermometer) which I hated because it was hard to read. So recently I bought this Sunbeam one and an MIU one (MIU #90069 Commercial Oven Thermometer) because it was 4 for 3 and I was tired of not knowing the oven temperature.
Then I turned my oven on to somewhere between 325 and 350F, put all three thermometers in the same part of the oven, and let it heat for a while. After 10 or 15 minutes, I opened the door and took a picture of the thermometers so I could get their readings at the same time.
The results were:
Sunbeam: approx 380F
MIU: approx 360F
Taylor: approx 380F
So, the 380-degrees have it. Anyway, my cooking experiences have led me to believe that my oven is more likely to be off by about that much.
The Sunbeam and the Taylor had the same temperatures, so the only difference between them is that the numbers on the Sunbeam are legible, and the Taylor costs three times as much.

.. Yes, out of the box, the needle was pointing beyond, that is 'reversed' counterclockwise to the zero point. I thought it was junk, and researched and found the name plate not having Sunbeam, etc .. I thought I was duped, but ..
.. I was so wrong. The 3 little dots under the bottom center SHOULD be described as the zero-point, 'somewhere,' but aren't.
And, well .. ahem .. the certification is very real. And the thermometer (do I mention the 1st time it read really low? .. yes) .. is perfect. For whatever reason though (it has a sealed back, so maybe it took time or something) it read like 50 degrees low, which confirmed I should return it, .. but for $5+ return shipping .. ? No, I'll just live with it and throw it in a drawer and grumble when I stumble on it.
And now? It's great! I have it a couple of months now, and have come to rely on it. Truly. I'm a lab tech that calibrates instruments for my living, well, when I'm not doing other R&D stuff, and this is a buy at $6, or most any reasonable price.
You don't need to hesitate at all. This is the one, unless you're ready to spend much more .. buy me :)

I bought this because my oven wasn't cooking things with any regularity, some things were done on time, some would take up to 45 minutes longer. This thermometer - I have to assume it's accurate since as I mentioned, the stove has been acting strange - has showed me that my oven temperature varies and doesn't stay constant at all. I hung it on the bottom of my top rack and it has never been in the way and I count on it. I will be buying a new oven as soon as finances allow.Customer Review: Oven calibration proven Right On!

Believing two thermometers are necessary to verify the calibration of our oven, I purchased this Sunbeam model together with the Taylor Oven Guide Thermometer. Both read within two degrees of each other and the oven itself was right on the money!

The numbers are big enough to see through the glass oven doors. Cleaning is not a problem, sponge dipped in warm water & soap, and towel dry. I bought this thermometer to check my built-in thermometer, both gave the same reading. I thought the built-in thermometer was inaccurate but with 2 thermometers giving the same temperature, the oven must be OK. For the price, this is a good buy.
