Customer Review: Sunbeam Kitchen Timer
Summary: 4 Stars

The Sunbeam kitchen timer is an exceptional value and seems perfectly serviceable. At about $7 (ours were $5 after a special) you can buy 2 or 3 for what one might cost of another brand (I've never figured out why kitchen timers cost $15-$20!).

Several people commented on the volume, some feeling it was too loud. Well, it isn't really "loud," it's more the nature of the "beep." It is quite pronounced in the high frequencies and a little grating, probably more so if your hearing is good (high frequencies). Having said that, the volume itself seems appropriate.

If the beep annoys you, you REALLY won't like that the minutes and seconds are always entered as four digits beginning from the left, and each press of a button is accompanied by a beep -- Note this is different than most timers that start from the right. In other words, to enter 10 minutes you must enter 0-0-1-0, rather then 1-0.

And the buttons, as some have commmented, are a little small. Not a problem, just not "fun" to use. They work fine.

Also as some have said, the timers feel a little light (or maybe not balanced?) and are a little thicker than some. Not dramatically so and it doesn't bother us, especially at the price.

The timer does have a "recall" (press stop just once to reset the starting time), uses standard AAA batteries, has a decent sized display and, of course, has direct entry (instead of holding down minute and second buttons). All-in-all, a good value.

Customer Review: Not rocket science

I like this. It's easy to use. The alarm is a wee bit loud but that's good actually if you're not in the vicinity of the timer and need to know when the time's up. One reviewer correctly wrote that when you try to turn it off or on, it flies off whatever it's magnetized to. So, I just lift it off the fridge and set it or reset it. No problem there. For the money it's just what I wanted.

UPDATE - 3/2010
The problem of the timer flying off the fridge (or wherever you might have it) really got to me. No matter how careful I was, the damn thing kept flying and falling until it finally broke. But I really liked this timer, so I bought another one and made a little "enhancement". I took the metal stand in the back off so that the timer, (in the back) was practically flat. Then I took two or three small round magnets, crazy glued them to the back of the timer, and VOILA! I have the perfect timer - does what it's supposed to and never flies off the fridge. Now it only takes one hand to program it instead of two and it stays in place. WHY didn't the company think of this - it's much better this way.

Customer Review: Good Digital Timer
Summary: 4 Stars

This timer does its job just fine. I happen to really like it. It's user friendly, the buttons are easy to push, it's loud enough to hear, small enough to take with you to another room while something is cooking, and it has a magnet on the back to keep it on the fridge PLUS a little fold out stand on the back so you can place it upright on a counter or such.

The only thing I don't like about it, is that when it is on the fridge you have to hold it while pressing the buttons. The stand on the back, even when folded away, makes it stick out from the fridge rather than flush with it. So if you firmly press the start button to the side the timer goes flying off the fridge. It now sounds a little funny after taking so many blows to the floor... but it does still work!

Customer Review: decent timer for the price

I own a Timex timer with the number pad like this one, and was looking to add another one to my kitchen.

This one works just like the Timex, but is rather "fat". It definitely sticks out FAR off the front of our refrigerator (about 1 to 2 inches) like one reviewer said, so you must make sure you don't brush it with your shoulder as you pass by, or you have to pick it up off the floor.

The magnet can't seem to hold it in place while you press the buttons, so you DO have to hold it with your other hand.

It is fine for what we use it for, but I will continue my quest for a more "slim" profile timer with a better, stronger magnet.

Customer Review: Sunbeam timer
Summary: 4 Stars

Over all good timer. I was able to disassemble the timers and paint the covers, so my kids could tell theirs apart from one another.

Inputting the time is a little different from any other timer I have used. The plastic casing and buttons feel cheap, but I have not had any problems with any of the 4 timers I purchased. The clip and magnet on the back sticks out quite a bit and makes it unsteady when entering the numbers and it is stuck to the fridge.

I have had them for about for about two months and all are working fine.
