I am a professional Chef and use this everyday. I usually find it is more reliable to have your own equipment rather than relying on something that someone else said is good.
This is a first rate thermometer and I use it all day long. Easy to clean and sanitize, withstands the wear and tear of commercial kitchen use (including drops) without requiring recalibration (as with standard thermometers).
When taking temperatures, it takes about 15 sec. to get accurate read. But for the most part it get's you in the neighborhood within 4 sec. and then you can watch it fluctuate in 10th's of incriments

I just used this thermometer for Thanksgiving, testing the turkey for doneness. It worked like a charm, registering 166 degrees when I removed the turkey from the grill. It was perfect, not overdone. I would not have known otherwise (based on time cooking) because of varying outside temperatures (my grill is outside) and from opening the grill lid continuously to baste. The thermometer is waterproof, greaseproof, and registers a stable number very quickly -- within 10 seconds. It's better than most of these gizmos because it can register high temperatures. It's a highly recommended tool for the kitchen at just 15 bucks.Customer Review: Functional, Versatile & Accurate

I was in desperate need of an accurate thermometer for candymaking and chocolate tempering, and thought it wouldn't be such a bad idea if I could also have something useful for everyday cooking tasks like roasting meat. That's quite a temperature range, but this little workhorse does it all, and with speed and precision, too. As other reviewers have suggested, this thermometer is only fast when you turn it on *after* having the probe in place. I usually get a solid reading about 3 seconds after powering it on. I am entirely pleased with this indispensible piece of kitchen equipment...a great value!Customer Review: Love it!

I love this little digital thermometer. I have only used it a few times, all for checking my water temperature to proof yeast in. I have always had a hard time judging water temperature for yeast, and would often kill my yeast. This is the reason I bought the thermometer, and it has been working like a charm! All my yeast attempts have been successful and I have made many wonderful different types of breads and even successfully made croissants this past weekend. Because I have only used it for water, I have yet to wash it, but would never submerge it completely in water, just to be safe.Customer Review: Great little thermometer

This is actually the fourth one that I've bought, but that's not because my first one broke, it's because I've given three as gifts. I've had mine since 2007(?), use it several times a week, and the original battery is still kicking. This guy is super versatile (making yogurt? bread? chicken? candy? burgers? need the ambient temperature? no problem!). It's easy to clean, works in F and C, and has a wide temperature range. It also shuts off automatically after 10 minutes if you accidentally leave it on (but the temperature has to be relatively stable for it to shut off). Love it.
