This thermometer is perfectly designed, with the bulb sitting far enough away from the bottom to give a proper reading. The metal backing makes it very sturdy. The clip can be used to affix it vertically to a pot, or just to prop it up slanted in a smaller pot.
The reading is very accurate, with important temperatures marked. It is a bit difficult to clean unless done so immeadiately after use. I did end up breaking one after scrubbing too hard to get in the crevice, but went right out and bought another one.

This is a terrific thermometer. It registers fairly quickly and has a wide range. The clip allows you to hang it on the side of a pan, and the thermometer itself is protected by its metal frame, so you never have to worry about the bulb resting on the bottom of the pan. I've had this thermometer for quite a while and it has stayed accurate.Best store it upright and in a place where it won't get jostled.

I don't make candy, but do deep fry occasionally. I use this thermometer with my 14" wok and it works beautifully. Just clip it on the back of the wok, pour in the oil, slide the thermometer up or down to submerge the bulb, and fire it up. I wash mine in the dishwasher, on a shelf, so I have never had a reason to touch the numbers. Have used it at least a dozen times and it looks and works like new.Customer Review: candy thermometer review

This purchase was to replace a Taylor candy thermometer that my wife had used for nearly fifty years. The old one is still very accurate but the scale had worn off and is very difficult to see. The new one is still the same quality and is much easier to see. We purchased two additional Taylor thermometers to give to grand daughters so they can continue the family candy making experiences.Customer Review: So happy to find

I had a thermometer like this several years ago and it broke. I have been looking for one all over my small town and also several stores in Indianapolis and couldn't find one. I have had to use several cheap tube like thermometers. (They break so easily.) I was so thrilled to find one and I ordered it. It came so quickly and was packed so well. I was extrememly satisfied.
