I had been learning how to bake bread, but my loaves were burning. I bought this to check my oven temperature and discovered that my oven was 50 degrees high. Now my loaves are perfectly browned. It seems then that this thermometer is accurate enough. I leave it clipped to the oven shelf next to the bread. It is easy enough to read through the oven door with the assistance of a flashlight if the window is reasonably clean. Markings are clear.
I have read some reviews that similar thermometers don't respond quickly enough. I haven't checked response time on this, I just leave it in the oven and it seems to keep up with the oven during preheating. I wasn't expecting "instant read" capability.
