Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Taylor Oven Guide Thermometer

Customer Review: Not Too Acurate
Summary: 2 Stars

The thermometer read 200 degrees when I put it into boiling water. Can't tell if the error is consistent over all temperatures.

As others have pointed out, the numbers are printed on metal and will wear off if cleaned too vigorously.

So, for a few dollars and for a few months, I'll have a rough idea of the oven temperature. Not what I want, but there don't seem to be other thermometers that are any better.

Customer Review: Good, simple, reliable
Summary: 5 Stars

Not much more to say. Our first one sat in the oven for probably 5 years until it was so spattered and stained we couldn't read it anymore. These things are very durable, simple, and much more reliable than your oven's internal thermometer. If you live in an apartment, where the oven and its past treatment are unknown, this is absolutely required if you want to bake anything. Not to mention, its cheap insurance so you don't waste hours just to find out your thermometer just went off the chart by 40 degrees and your food is ruined.

Customer Review: Finally... one that worked!
Summary: 5 Stars

Ok... oven not seeming to be hot enough... bought an oven thermometer at Kroger's.. not expensive. Well, that purchase didn't seem to heat up as much as the oven..
Went to William and Sonoma and bought the Taylor 503, much more expensive. So it should really be good, right? That thermometer seemed to be so, so slow in reaction. And thanks to the position of my oven light.. I couldn't even read it.
Went to Amazon and got an overnight delivery of the Taylor Oven Guide Thermometer. ( don't add all of this up...three thermometers.. it's ridiculous)Bottom line... this one was perfect for me. As far as complaints of grease and cleaning and losing lettering?? I take it out before I put the item in to bake. (Hint..use tongs to remove it as it is HOT. If you use mitts or hot pads.. I guarantee you.. you will drop it.)

Customer Review: not accurate

This thermometer always read lower than the temperature I set for my oven. I had been told a mercury thermometer works best. When I finally had a professional come to check my oven, he said the thermometer was off by 25 to 50 degrees.

Customer Review: Taylor Oven Guide Thermometer
Summary: 5 Stars

This thermometer really does the job. It's very easy to read, easy to hang or rest on the rack in your oven.
And not only is it a great, accurate thermometer, it's far less expensive than any of the other brands. Small wonder that it was highly recommended by Cook's Country Cooking magazine...
