Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Taylor Waterproof Digital ThermometerCustomer Review: This sturdy thermometer does the job Summary: 4 Stars
I ordered this thermometer for my dad who is a dentist that makes his own dentures. I believe his use of the thermometer is more rigorous than what you would use in cooking. He has to monitor the temperature of the water that he is boilng the dentures in. If it's too hot, then they don't turn out so good. If they're undercooked, same thing. In the past, he used a mercury filled thermometer which was so darn hard to read the little lines. My brothers and I always hated being asked to go look at the temperature every 10 minutes or so. Finally, I got him this thermometer as one of his birthday presents. It is very accurate(much more than the mercury one) and the high heat doesn't bother it. He just leaves the thermometer in the boiling water and turns on the unit whenever he needs to read the temperature. As far as cooking goes, I believe it would be an awesome tool to check the temperatures of meats to make sure the bacteria are killed. It's extremely sturdy(been stepped on and dropped a couple of times). Worth the money.
Description of Taylor Waterproof Digital ThermometerFirst-rate in all respects, this waterproof digital thermometer is ideal for food-service professionals but can serve household cooks as well. Because it's digital, it doesn't need to be inserted deeply for an accurate reading--just 1 inch will do. Its temperature range is -58 to 302 degrees F (-50 to 150 degrees C), with an accuracy rating of plus/minus 1.8 degrees F (1 degree C). A button selects Fahrenheit or Celsius. The probe is stainless steel and the case is tough, durable polycarbonate. The removable probe sleeve is designed to stir food for accurate readings. The thermometer has an on/off button and a "hold" button to retain a reading, operates on a 1.5-volt battery (included) with a life of 5,000 hours, and shuts off automatically after 10 minutes. It has a hanging loop and a pen-style pocket clip. --Fred Brack
